Essentials

Registering

Below the Login box on the left is a link to the Register screen.  Enter the requested information and you will be registered.  Until you register are accepted by the Administrator and subsequently log in you can’t really participate beyond commenting on existing POSTS and those comments are not automatically approved for publication.

After Registering

When you complete the registration process you will probably be taken dirrectly to your Dashboard.  It is from here that you do everything but browse, read and comment (although you can comment from here too).  The first thing you should do is go to and complete your Profile.

On subsequent logins you will need to click on Dashboard to get there.  The menu is on the left of your screen and includes all the functions that your current user lever permits such as Posting, Emailing etc.

User Levels

There are 6 levels of users on this site.

  1. Administrators – The webmaster(s) who administer the site.  A webmaster can edit, approve, delete etc. ANYTHING as well as alter the appearance and behavior of the site.  Administrators can use the email function to send mail to one or more registered users or groups.
  2. Editors – These have many of the powers of Administrators such as approving POSTS and COMMENTS by Guests, Subscribers and Contributors but can’t alter the blog itself.  Editors can use the email function to send mail to one or more registered users or groups.
  3. Authors – Authors may add new POSTS,  COMMENT on other POSTS, edit and delete their own POSTS and COMMENTS.  Authors can use the email function to send mail to one or more registered user(s).
  4. Contributors – Contributors’ POSTS and COMMENTS must be reviewed by Editors or Administrators before being approved for publication on the blog.  All published POSTS and COMMENTS are subject to deletion by any Administrator or Editor at any time for any reason.  Contributors do not have access to the email function.
  5. Subscribers – This is the level to which new Registrants are assigned.  The only difference between Subscribers and Guests is the act of registering.  New Subscribers will be assigned to the appropriate User Level by the Administrator.  Subscribers  do not have access to the email function.
  6. Guests – Guests are visitors to the blog who are not logged in.  Guests to the site may COMMENT to existing POSTS but may not POST or use the email.  COMMENTS will be reviewed as described above for Contributors.

Posting

On the Add Post screen and the Edit Post screen there are a variety of  attributes that can be set.  The most important of these are the Category and Tags which help in organizing the site and are used by the Search function.
